How to add a recipe in Groceree
Last updated
You can add a recipe to Groceree by sharing it from another app, pasting a link, photographing a printed page, pasting the text, or typing it in yourself. Every import reads out the title, the ingredients with their quantities, and the steps. Sharing from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Facebook is the quickest, so it comes first.
Share a recipe from another app
- 01
Open the post
Find the recipe in Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or Facebook, and open the post itself rather than the profile. A video, a reel or a caption with the ingredients written out all work.
- 02
Tap Share
It is the paper plane on Instagram and the arrow on TikTok and YouTube. This is the app’s own share button, the same one you would use to send the post to a friend.
- 03
Choose Groceree
Pick Groceree from the list of apps. If it is not there, tap More on iPhone and add it, or scroll down on Android to find it. Groceree opens and starts reading the recipe.
- 04
Wait for the recipe to open
It can take up to a minute. The recipe then opens with its ingredients, quantities and steps, and a link back to where it came from — “Watch on TikTok”, “Watch on Instagram” or “Open the recipe page”. From there you can edit anything that came out wrong.
Other ways to add a recipe
- Tap + on the Recipes tab to open Add a recipe. “Import from web” takes a link to any recipe page, “Paste text” takes a recipe copied out of a note or a message, “Upload from photos” reads a cookbook page, a recipe card or a handwritten note, and “Enter manually” lets you type a recipe in.
- Photos are added inside the app rather than shared to it: “Take a photo” for one page, or “Choose from library” to pick up to eight photos of one recipe, in order.
- You can also paste a social link straight into the app instead of sharing, under “Or paste a link from a social network here”.
- A recipe keeps the language it was written in, as long as the app has that language, and a Translate button shows it in yours. Turn on “Translate imported recipes” in Settings to save every import in the app’s language instead. Quantities are never changed.
- Imports are limited per week on the free plan. The app tells you how many you have used and when the count resets.
