Groceree vs Paprika: an honest comparison

Last updated

Paprika is the long-standing recipe manager: buy it once, save recipes from websites, plan meals on a calendar and shop from an aisle-sorted list, on phones, Mac and Windows. Groceree is a newer, mobile-only app built around saving recipes from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, and a grocery list the whole household shares in real time.

People looking for a Paprika alternative usually want one of two things Paprika 3 does not do: save recipes from social video, or share a grocery list with the household without sharing one login. Paprika 4, in open beta since September 28, 2026, adds social and photo imports and family sharing as part of a coming Premium subscription.

This page is written by the team behind Groceree. The Paprika facts come from Paprika’s own site, help guides and app store listings, checked on October 4, 2026, and describe the shipping Paprika 3 unless they say otherwise.

When Paprika is the better choice

There are clear cases where we would point you at Paprika instead.

  • You want to buy once. Paprika costs $4.99 on iPhone and $29.99 on Mac or Windows, with no subscription and no ads. Groceree is free with ads, and unlimited imports need Groceree Plus.
  • You plan meals on a calendar. Paprika has daily, weekly and monthly plans and reusable menus; Groceree has no meal planner.
  • You cook from a laptop or keep a pantry. Paprika runs natively on Mac and Windows, tracks pantry items with expiry dates and prints recipes. Groceree is mobile only.
  • You have years of recipes in older software. Paprika imports from MasterCook, Living Cookbook, Pepperplate and other formats; Groceree has no file import.
  • You want everything to work offline. Paprika keeps the whole library on the device.

When Groceree is the better choice

And the cases where we think Groceree is the better fit.

  • You find recipes on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Facebook. Groceree saves them today, and when the recipe is only said or shown in the video, it reads the video. Paprika 3 cannot import social posts, and the Paprika 4 beta reads only the post’s text.
  • You photograph cookbook pages or family recipe cards, handwriting included. Paprika 3 has no photo import.
  • You share the shopping and the recipes. In Groceree each person has their own account on the lists and cookbooks shared with them by link, and list changes appear on every phone straight away. In Paprika 3 a household shares one login, and each person buys the app for their own platform.
  • You cook from recipes in other languages. Groceree keeps a recipe in the language it was written in and translates it with one tap.
  • You want to try before paying. Groceree is free to download on both platforms; Paprika on iPhone is paid up front.

The short answer

If you want a complete recipe database you own outright, on every device including a desktop, with a meal calendar and a pantry, Paprika is the more complete product and $4.99 well spent. If your recipes come from social video and cookbook photos, and the point is getting the ingredients onto a list the household shares, Groceree does that on the free tier, and you can tell in a minute whether it suits you.

Common questions

Can I import my Paprika recipes into Groceree?
Not as a file: Groceree has no import for Paprika’s export format. Recipes you saved from websites can be added again by sharing the page into Groceree.
Does Paprika import recipes from TikTok or Instagram?
Not in Paprika 3. The Paprika 4 beta adds it for Premium subscribers and reads the text of the post, such as the caption, rather than the video. Groceree reads the caption and, when that is not the whole recipe, the video itself.
Is Groceree free compared to Paprika?
Groceree is free to download, with shared lists free and five recipe imports a week; Groceree Plus removes ads and makes imports unlimited. Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase per platform; on iPhone there is no free version, and on Android the free version holds up to 50 recipes.
Is Groceree on Mac or Windows?
No. Groceree is an iPhone and Android app. If you want to manage recipes on a computer, Paprika’s desktop apps are a real strength.
