Discover: find recipes by ingredient, diet and cooking time
Published

Groceree now has Discover, a tab of almost 200 recipes from 27 cuisines, written with exact amounts in all 13 of the app’s languages. Search by dish or by an ingredient you want to use up, filter by diet, course and cooking time, then save a recipe to your collection or send its ingredients to your shared shopping list. It is free on iPhone and Android.
Where Discover fits next to your saved recipes
Groceree is where you keep your recipes: the ones you save from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and recipe websites, the ones you photograph from a cookbook and the ones you write yourself. Each becomes a clean recipe with amounts and steps, filed in your cookbooks and one tap away from your shopping list.
Discover brings the recipes you have not found yet. It is for the evenings when nothing in your collection fits, or when you want to try a cuisine you have never cooked. Whatever you save from Discover lands in the same library as your own recipes and works just like them.
What is in Discover
Almost 200 recipes to start, from Italian and Mexican to Vietnamese, Brazilian and Eastern European, with more added as they are written and checked. Every one has a photo, exact quantities, numbered steps and the time it takes.
You can browse without typing anything:
- Browse by cuisine: a photo for each of the 27 cuisines, from American to Vietnamese
- Under 30 minutes: recipes that are ready in half an hour by the clock, preparation included
- Search recipes: type a dish, or an ingredient you want to use up
Filters that narrow it down to tonight
Tap Filters and combine what matters today:
- Course: breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snack, drink or side dish
- Diet: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, high protein or low carb, plus one-pot, no-cook and meal-prep dishes. Pick several and a recipe has to meet all of them.
- Cooking time: up to 15, 30 or 60 minutes
- Cuisine: one, or several at once
- Ingredients: add what is in your fridge, and only the recipes that use all of it stay
Every choice shows how many recipes it leaves before you tap it, so you never filter your way to an empty screen. Sort by Best match, or by Quickest when time is short.
Save it to your recipes, or send it to your list
Open a recipe and set the number of people; every quantity is recalculated. Save puts a copy in your recipe library, in a cookbook if you like, and from there it works like any recipe you imported yourself, cooking mode included.
To shop for it, add the ingredients to a list, untick anything you already have, and the rest lands on your shared list in aisle order, where everyone in the household sees it straight away.
Diet labels you can rely on
A recipe is only marked vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free when every ingredient that is not optional meets it. That catches the ones that slip through elsewhere: fish sauce and anchovies are not vegetarian, honey is not vegan, and ordinary soy sauce is not gluten-free.
Parmesan and pecorino are made with animal rennet, so a pasta that depends on them is not marked vegetarian here, even where other sites would call it that.
In your language, with your shop’s words
Discover speaks all 13 of Groceree’s languages: English, German, Spanish for Spain and for Mexico, French, Italian, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish.
Ingredients are matched to the products in Groceree’s grocery catalogue, so they arrive on your list under the names your shop uses and in the right aisle, not as a line of recipe text you have to decode in the shop.
What Discover is not
It is not a meal planner: there is no calendar, and nothing is scheduled. There are no ratings or comments either; recipes are chosen for Discover rather than voted up.
And it does not replace the recipes you already love. Keep saving those from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and the web; Discover sits next to them.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Discover free?
- Yes. Discover is part of the free Groceree app on iPhone and Android. Browsing, searching and filtering its recipes, saving them to your library and adding them to a shopping list all cost nothing.
- Can I find recipes by the ingredients I have?
- Yes. Open Filters, add what you have under Ingredients, and Discover keeps only the recipes that use all of it. Combine that with a diet or a cooking time to narrow it down further.
- Where do saved Discover recipes go?
- Into your recipe library, next to the recipes you import from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and the web. You can file them in a cookbook, change the servings, cook from them with the screen kept on and add their ingredients to a list, just like your own recipes.
- How do I add a Discover recipe to my shopping list?
- Open the recipe, set the number of people, and add its ingredients to a list. Untick anything you already have; the rest goes onto your shared list in aisle order, and everyone on the list sees it at once.
- Are the recipes in my language?
- Yes, in all 13 languages the app supports. Recipe names, ingredients and steps are written in your language, and each ingredient is matched to a product in the grocery catalogue, so it lands in the right aisle on your list.
- How many recipes are in Discover?
- Almost 200 at launch, from 27 cuisines, and more are added as they are written and checked. Every recipe has a photo, exact quantities, numbered steps and its total cooking time.
